You can tell if your Porsche needs an oil change by looking for these signs:

  • The check engine or oil change lights come on
  • Smoke comes out of the exhaust
  • The engine makes a knocking sound
  • The oil is dirty or gritty
  • The oil level is low
  • The oil has changed color or texture

Is It Time?

You should change your Porsche’s oil every 7,500 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. Newer models only need to be changed once a year or every 10,000 miles.

You can check the oil level by removing the dipstick and inspecting how far up the dipstick the oil goes. Most dipsticks have markings that indicate the optimum oil level. If the oil level is low, or if the oil appears dirty or gritty, then it’s probably time for an oil change.

If the oil level has fallen rapidly since the last time you checked, then you may have an oil leak. You should take your car to a local dealership so a technician can take a look.
